how long does a private pilots license last?
furyofthestorm asked:
if one were to get a private pilots license, will the license expire in a certain number of years? or will you have the license/be qualified for single-engine aircraft for the rest of your life?

A private pilot license lasts as long as you do. But you have to stay current or you shouldn’t fly…by current I’d say fly at least twice a week.
You’ll also have to get a biennial review, which is every two years to have your license current. Otherwise it becomes inactive. All you have to do is get another biennial to continue flying. It consists of reviewing all the rules and regulations as well as demonstrating you still have the skills to be pilot in command of an aircraft.

US Rules only
Pilot Licenses do not expire.
Medical Certificates do expire.
There are recent flight experience requirements necessary in order to exercise your privileges but the license itself never expires.
Paul B. says to stay current you have fly twice/week. However the FAA spells out specific currency requirements and they have nothing to do with flying twice per week.

License for life,as long as you pass your medical.every year ,then its every 6 months after a certain age.when you fly it’s one hour a month to keep current on that type of aircraft.if you do not fly for a while you will need a check flight

Right now it will be good till the day you die. They, that is the FAA, are working towards a license that does expire after a certain time period exactly the same way your drivers license expires. All you need to do is just renew it. This is basically just another way the government is trying to **** money out of us any way they can.
In order to keep your privileges of your license though is a totally different story. Read the regs for that one though because I don’t really feel like typing all that info especially since you didn’t ask for it.

Technically, there is no such thing as a pilots LICENSE, it is a CERTIFICATE.
With the exception of the following, it has no experation date.
b) The following pilot certificates and ratings have expired and will not be reissued:
(1) An airline transport pilot certificate issued before May 1, 1949, or an airline transport pilot certificate that contains a horsepower limitation;
(2) A private or commercial pilot certificate issued before July 1, 1945; and
(3) A pilot certificate with a lighter-than-air or free-balloon rating issued before July 1, 1945.
(c) A pilot certificate issued on the basis of a foreign pilot license will expire on the date the foreign license expires unless otherwise specified on the U.S. pilot certificate. A certificate without an expiration date is issued to the holder of the expired certificate only if that person meets the requirements of ยง61.75 for the issuance of a pilot certificate based on a foreign pilot license.
(d) An airline transport pilot certificate issued after April 30, 1949, that bears an expiration date but does not contain a horsepower limitation may be reissued without an expiration date.
(e) A private or commercial pilot certificate issued after June 30, 1945, that bears an expiration date may be reissued without an expiration date.
(f) A pilot certificate with a lighter-than-air or free-balloon rating issued after June 30, 1945, that bears an expiration date may be reissued without an expiration date.
. To exercise the privileges of a private pilot, one must
1. Have a current FAA medical certificate.
2.Every two years you are required to have a flight review from a certified flight instructor which entails of a minimum of 1 hour of flight training and 1 hour of ground training.
unless they passed a pilot proficiency check conducted by an examiner, an approved pilot check airman, or a U.S. Armed Force, for a pilot certificate, rating, or operating privilege need not accomplish the flight review required by this section.
(the above does not apply if the pilot obtains a added rating.)
Other currency requirements are to carry passengers

Your private pilot rating is good forever once you get it - you just need to stay current with a BFR and you need to stay in Medical.

The licence never expires, but the medical certificate that is also required to act as flight crew does. Depending on your age and the type of licence this can be anywhere from six months to five years. In Canada, a private pilot under 40 needs to renew the medical every five years.

frist of all its not a private pilots license its a private pilot CERTIFICATE. the CERTIFICATE last till the day you die. the things you should worry about is ur medical stuff. and as long as you fly often then you should be fine

The new plastic coated ones will last a long long time.
